GOCC facilities ‘sorely in need of renovations’
To the editor:
I’m a believer in higher education and a believer in Glen Oaks Community College.
For some, Glen Oaks is the first step on the path to acquiring a bachelor’s or master’s degree; for others, it is the means to advance their careers; and for many it’s their best option for balancing college, work and family.
I’ve attended three colleges during my life, Glen Oaks, Hillsdale and WMU, and I’ve always felt the faculty and staff of Glen Oaks was every bit as good as the others, but as for the facilities, they lag behind. Just like our homes become outdated, so has the college’s facilities. It’s time to update and improve them. It’s not going to get less expensive. The time is now.
Glen Oaks Community College’s facilities are more than 50-years-old and sorely in need of renovations. I’ve been there several times and the need for security enhancements, updated classrooms, expanded and improved technology workshops and labs, along with modern energy efficiency changes are long overdue.
I urge you to join me in voting yes on the GOCC Millage on Nov. 6.
