The privilege and responsibility of voting
To the Editor:
This month, a 911 millage request was on the ballot. The county clerk reported that only 6.2 percent of the registered voters of St. Joseph County took the time to vote. Of that total, 1,364 voted yes and 1,323 voted no. A small difference of 41 votes. Any person who believes that their vote does not count or make a difference is mistaken.
Why would nearly 94 percent of registered voters want their choice, regardless of what issue is on the ballot, be determined by 6 percent of registered voters? It is your privilege and your responsibility to make your voice heard with your personal vote. If you are unable to physically get to your polling location during voting hours, you do have the option to obtain an absentee ballot.
I urge each and every registered voter to make their voice heard by exercising their voting privileges.
