Return to a time of citizen comment
It was quite a show witnessed by
the largest audience of citizens in
awhile at this week’s St. Joseph
County Commission meeting.
It became clear to me that the
manipulation of the times for
citizens comments to assure a new
member of the commission
actually serves to limit citizen
input, not only on the issues of the
day, but also on the proceedings.
There must be a return to a time of
citizen comment at the end of the
meeting as recommended by the
Open Meetings Act, in order for
the PEOPLE to speak to the actions
of their representative employees.
The idea of “civility” goes for both
sides of the microphone.
