Why not a sanctuary for national monuments?

To the editor:
Across the country there has been vicious damage being done to historical landmarks and monuments. I feel like this is uncalled for. Right now there are many cities in uproar as to being sanctuary cities for immigrants.
Why not make a sanctuary city for land monuments? Not that I favor what any of the actions of some that have been destroyed, but we have generations of children who have not yet grown up and know nothing of these people. They have been here for 100 years and nobody had complained.
Why now? If we can cover immigrants in sanctuary cities, we should be able to do the same for historical monuments.
