Why was Geiber Park renamed?
To the editor:
I would like to know why Geiber Park at the corner of Fourth and Broadway was renamed. Former Mayor Kathy Geiber saw a need in her neighborhood for a safe place for the kids to play. She raised funds via donations on her own to put in a basketball court and playground equipment. The park was named in her honor.
Now her name has been stripped away and the park renamed for former Commissioner Foster. The Geiber family was not even notified of the change. They found out by driving by and seeing the new sign. I believe Foster should be honored, but not in this way. Perhaps benches, sharing the name of the park with Geiber, or find another area to honor him.
Are we going to start removing other community leaders names, and rename those just because someone decided so? This is just yet another example of the poor choices and bad decisions being made by the current city leaders.
