Commission prioritizes courts remodel, jail kitchen
CENTREVILLE — The St. Joseph County Commission has decided that besides roads, its priorities are remodeling of the courts building and of the jail kitchen. As such, county administrator Pat Yoder will direct his efforts into researching those matters.
During the commissioners’ work session Wednesday, March 15, chairperson Al Balog presented five projects that had been discussed extensively in the past: a remodeling of the courts building, updating the 911 communication system, remodeling the jail, an animal control building, and the Three Rivers library/Commission on Aging building.
“We need to determine what the goal is of the commission — what’s important, what isn’t,” he said. “If we had unlimited funds we could do all five; all five are worthy.”
He said that discussion regarding the courts building had included putting on an addition, purchasing property for a whole new building, or doing an extensive remodel.
