SJC Project Connect numbers up

Julie Wirgau and Morgan Bullock of Sturgis handed out food boxes to St. Joseph County residents during the 10th Annual St. Joseph County Project Connect at Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville on Friday, Oct. 7. Wirgau and Bullock were two of 50 volunteers lending a hand during the event which featured 70 different agencies providing information or assistance with utilities, education, housing, legal aide, healthcare/insurance, employment, senior services, transportation or veteran services. Attendees were also offered a free meal onsite, free coats, free haircuts, free health screenings and flu shots. The total number of households attending this year was 341 (115 more than last year) and the total impact, reflecting the total number of people in the attendees’ households, was 976 (140 more than last year).
