Ancilla sweeps GOCC

Vikings honor sophomores

CENTREVILLE — The Glen Oaks Community College Athletic Department held its Sophomore Recognition Day Saturday.
Hannah Carr, Melvin DeVeaux, Stephon Matthews and Christian Oakley were all recognized, along with Constantine freshman Tyler Shank who has joined the Marine Corps.
The five individuals were recognized between the men’s and women’s home games against Ancilla Community College.
On the court, Ancilla defeated Glen Oaks in the women’s game 85-42.
Gabrielle Russell had 15 points and two rebounds for Glen Oaks. Madeline Adams added 11 points and three rebounds. Leasia Jackson chipped in 10 points and three assists. Carr, a White Pigeon native, added six points and 12 rebounds.
In the men’s game, Glen Oaks dropped a 100-77 decision to Ancilla, which is ranked No. 15 in the nation.
Glen Oaks drops to 0-22 overall and 0-16 in the Western Conference. Ancilla improves to 23-4 overall and 13-3 in the conference.
Matthews scored a game-high 21 points to go with six rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Oakley added 14 points, seven assists and five rebounds for the Vikings, while DeVeaux added 12 points, seven assists and three steals.
Centreville freshman Chase LeBarre added eight points and four rebounds for Glen Oaks, while Shank chipped in seven points and two boards.
Both Glen Oaks teams play at Kellogg Community College today. The women play at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m.
