Jergens’ 28 leads HCS past Mendon

MENDON — The Howardsville Christian School boys’ basketball team remained undefeated with a 57-44 win at Mendon Tuesday.
Dave Parks’ Eagles, now 3-0 overall, used a 19-7 run during the third quarter to take a 45-22 lead into the final eight minutes.
Mendon finally found some offensive rhythm outscoring Howardsville 22-12 in the fourth quarter, but fell short.
“We really struggled on the offensive end of the floor the first three quarters,” said Mendon coach Dave Swanwick. “We finally found some rhythm there in the fourth. The kids never gave up even when we were down by 25 at one point in the second quarter.”
Howardsville led 11-4 after one period and 26-15 entering halftime.
Dylan Jergens, a sophomore, led Howardsville with 28 points, four rebounds and three steals. Lucas Withers added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Dan Kent and Colton Fair kicked in six points and four rebounds apiece and David Cripps had four points and six steals.
“We have some things to clean up, but I thought our kids played a good game tonight,” said Howardsville coach Dave Parks.
