CROSS COUNTRY ROUNDUP
CONSTANTINE — The Constantine boys’ and girls’ cross country teams swept visiting Colon in a pair of non-league meets Monday.
Constantine won the boys’ meet 15-50 and the girls’ meet 22-37.
Tim Kinney, a senior, of Constantine, toured the course in a winning time of 17:43 to lead the Falcon boys.
In fact the Falcons swiped the first eight places in the race.
Kinney was followed by Sam Warren (second, 18:51), Jake Locker (third, 18:59.05), Alex Weaver (fourth, 18:59.36) and Jack Jones (fifth, 19:22) to cap the scoring.
Joe Shoup finished next for the Falcons in sixth place with a time of 19:35 followed by Jacob Dehaven (seventh, 20:07 and Kameron Nusbaum (eighth, 20:29).
Also running for the Falcons were Brendon Patmalnieks (10th, 20:42), Jackson Harris (11th, 20:43), Ryan Sailor (12th, 20:56), Nathan Carper (14th, 21:10), Zack Faulkner (15th, 21:12.1), Guy Topolski (17th, 21:13), Jacob Shoesmith (18th, 21:34), Zach Harrison (19th, 21:41), Andrew Carper (21st, 23:11) and Asfat Cheloh (22nd, 29:41).
Malorie Hulse led Constantine with a first-place finish of 23:14.
Kiara Price of Constantine was second in 23:48 followed by Christianna Covello (sixth, 26:06), Kim Carper (seventh, 26:35), Jamison Watson (eighth, 26:46), Alexis Middleton (ninth, 27:30) and Alexis Herlein (10th, 27:44).
Mendon boys win Coaches Association state championships
SHEPHERD — Mendon’s boys’ cross country team competed in the Michigan Class D Coaches Association’s state championships Saturday at Maple Creek Golf Club in Shepherd.
Art Stephenson’s Hornets scored 114 points to earn first place out of the 20 teams that participated.
In the girls’ meet, Mendon scored 288 points for 12th place.
Junior Keaton Crotser earned fifth place for Mendon with a time of 17:13.2.
Senior Alex Heckman was next for the Hornets with a 16th-place time of 17:40.1 followed by senior Jacob Hagenbuch (18th, 17:41), junior Connor Henckel (32nd, 18:09.5) and junior Wyatt Cupp (58th, 18:59).
Also competing were Garrett Russell (67th, 19:07.2) and Nik Andaverde (104th, 20:00.2).
In the girls’ race, Mendon was led by senior Mary Leighton (26th, 21:17.6).
Also getting involved in the Hornets’ scoring were senior Julia Sutter (56th, 23:01.3), junior MaKenzie Oatley (69th, 23:43.7), senior Taylor Schmidt (86th, 24:39.5) and junior Lauren Lash (131st, 28:31.5).
Also competing for Mendon was sophomore Taylor Mailhot (141st, 30:24.6).
