Falcons face Coloma in team regional today
COLOMA — Constantine’s wrestling team is up against some tough competition in today’s Division 3 team regionals at Coloma.
But a look at the schedule this season is proof enough the Falcons enjoy a challenge.
Constantine (17-13) faces host Coloma in one semifinal match. The other pits Lake Odessa Lakewood against Hopkins on an adjacent mat.
Both matches begin at 6 p.m. with the winners meeting in the championship 20 minutes following completion of the semifinals.
The regional champion advances to the team state finals Friday-Saturday, Feb. 24-25 at McGuirk Arena on Central Michigan University’s campus.
Constantine makes its second consecutive appearance in the team regional. The Falcons were eliminated last year by Buchanan in the semifinal match.
Constantine co-coaches Mike Baker and Dale Davidhizar are pleased to have the Falcons back in the team regionals.
It’s been a tough season for Constantine which has battled numerous injuries while attacking a tumultuous schedule.
Last week Constantine defeated Buchanan 40-27 and the host school 39-33 to win the Dowagiac District.
The Falcons will have their work cut out for them tonight.
“We’re excited to have such a great opportunity on Wednesday. We have worked hard all year to put ourselves in this position. We will have to win some upperweight matches in order to get by Coloma and our kids know that,” Baker said.
