Lady Bulldogs fall to Comets
LAWTON — The Centreville varsity volleyball team has a lot to be proud of.
Although it wasn’t quite how the Lady Bulldogs (34-14-5) its season end in Tuesday’s Class C regional semifinals with a loss to the Kalamazoo Christian Comets 25-23, 15-25, 21-25, 19-25.
Kalamazoo Christian advances to face Bronson in Thursday’s championship match at 7 p.m.
Bronson defeated Bridgman Tuesday in the other semifinal.
“It’s always tough when a season comes to this point,” said Centreville coach Melissa Gales. “The girls played their hearts out tonight. We struggled passing in spurts throughout the night and in those games the recovery was not quick enough.
“I think we matched up well with Kalamazoo Christian. It is a heart- breaking finish for my girls, especially seniors Skyler DeMyer and Hannah Marchand. I am privileged to have been given the opportunity to coach them and their presence will be missed next year. I can’t say enough how proud I am of the entire team and the drive and desire to make it this far. I truly believe only great things will continue to come from Centreville Volleyball.”
Marchand had 10 assists, 20 kills, nine digs, one block, served 100 percent and hit .575.
Carlee Odom added one ace, four digs and a block for the Lady Bulldogs. Sara Lewis pitched in 18 digs. DeMeyer finished with one ace, served 100 percent, 18 assists, four kills and 12 digs. Kalee Schrock tossed in five digs. Carly Todd had one dig. Brittany Morris finished with eight digs. Samara Schlabach tossed in 12 kills, four blocks and hit .300. Logan Jourdan contributed one ace, one kill and three digs.
