Mendon earns Class D district title sweep of Marcellus volleyball
MENDON — The Mendon volleyball team made short work of Marcellus in Thursday night’s Class D district finals.
Bill Trenary’s Lady Hornets, now 40-8-6, swept the Lady Wildcats 25-14, 25-17, 25-14 on their home floor in Mendon.
No. 2-ranked Mendon advances to the Bellevue Regional on Tuesday where they will face last year’s state runner-up finisher Battle Creek St. Philip.
Battle Creek St. Philip won 10 straight state titles from 2005-14 until losing in the 2015 finals to Leland.
Mendon has lost to St. Philip the past two seasons in the state quarterfinals.
“We looked really strong throughout the night,” Trenary said. “I am very happy with our play. I can also tell you that our team is working very hard and continues to improve every day even this late in the season.”
