MIVCA selects All-State teams
MENDON — Several area high school volleyball players have been selected to the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association All-State teams.
Centreville’s Hannah Marchand, a 5-foot-9 senior outside hitter, was selected first team Class C All-State.
Samara Schlabach, a 5-6 sophomore middle hitter, was named honorable mention All-State for Centreville.
Marchand, who has signed a Division I scholarship with Jacksonville State University, and Schlabach led Centreville (34-14-5) to its first district championship since 1995.
Marchand had more than 1,000 career kills.
Adelyn Simkins, a 5-10 freshman outside hitter from Schoolcraft, was named to the second team.
Madie Hybels, a senior middle hitter from Schoolcraft, was selected honorable mention.
In Class D, Mendon senior Megann Leighton, a 5-foot-10 middle hitter, was selected first-team all-state for the second consecutive year.
Leighton recorded 700 kills and had 35 blocks.
Receiving second-team all-state honors from Mendon were 5-9 senior setter Cassie Plummer and 5-5 senior libero Kaley Smith.
Plummer had 1,239 assists and 59 service aces this season.
Smith, who has signed a Division I scholarship with Western Michigan University, had 94 service aces and 968 digs her senior year for 48-9-6 Mendon, which lost in the state quarterfinals to eventual state champion Plymouth Christian Academy.
Hannah Duchene, Mendon’s 5-10 freshman middle hitter, received third-team all-state.
Duchene finished with 318 kills, 30 blocks and 131 aces.
Mackenzie Buck, a 5-11 sophomore middle blocker from Marcellus, along with her teammate, 5-7 senior outside hitter Aleyna Hutson, were selected honorable mention.
