Muskegon beats Glen Oaks hoopsters
CENTREVILLE — The Glen Oaks Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams both lost at home Saturday to Muskegon Community College.
Glen Oaks, now 0-14 in the Western Conference and 0-20 overall, lost the men’s game 99-84. Muskegon improves to 18-5 overall and 12-2 in the conference.
Christian Oakley had a game-high 41 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals for Glen Oaks.
Stephon Matthews had 24 points, eight rebounds and three assists for the Vikings.
“I was extremely pleased with our effort this afternoon, even in the loss. I thought we moved the basketball well. We were taking good, if not great, shots and played hard on the defensive end,” said Glen Oaks men’s interim coach David Victor.
“Unfortunately, our rebounding wasn’t good enough, and we gave up too many second and third chance opportunities. We will continue to work, we’ll make some adjustments, and we hope to get on track next Wednesday against Lake Michigan.”
Glen Oaks dropped an 80-29 decision to Muskegon in the women’s game.
Madeline Adams had seven points, six rebounds, three blocked shots and one steal for Glen Oaks.
Jazsmin Blue added four points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Hannah Carr, a White Pigeon graduate, added eight points and 13 boards. Leasia Jackson had six points and Gabrielle Russell added six points, three assists and two steals.
