Three Rivers grapplers split opening dual meets

VICKSBURG — The Three Rivers varsity wrestling team opened its season splitting a pair of matches at a six-team meet in Vicksburg.
Pete Bachinski’s Wildcats lost to Coldwater 68-10 before earning a 48-6 win over Grand Rapids Calvin Christian.
At 130 pounds, Chris Morrill of Three Rivers earned a major decision over Coldwater’s Daniel Pino and pinned Brennan Hendrickson of Calvin Christian in 2:34.
At 135, Eric Vergauwen of Three Rivers lost 3-2 to Coldwater’s Carter Hoard. Vergauwen pinned Matt Grotenhuis of Calvin Christian in 1:38.
At 140, Andrew Lough of Three Rivers lost on technical fall 18-3 against Coldwater’s Ezra Lewis in 4:07. Lough won by forfeit against Calvin Christian.
At 145, Josh Draper of Three Rivers was pinned in 1:49 by Gustavo Fontecha of Coldwater. Draper received a forfeit against Calvin Christian.
At 152, Brian York of Three Rivers was pinned in 0:44 by Coldwater’s Matt Gipple. York beat Calvin Christian on a forfeit.
At 160, Michael Draper of Three Rivers was pinned in 4:35 by Coldwater’s Griffin Olmstead. Draper received a forfeit against Calvin Christian.
At 171, Zach Foreman of Three Rivers was pinned in 0:28 by Coldwater’s Zach Miller. Foreman was pinned in 1:03 by Branden Steenstra of Calvin Christian.
At 189, Tyler Carson of Three Rivers was pinned in 0:24 by Coldwater’s Sam DeMeester. Carson won his match by forfeit with Calvin Christian.
At 215, Tyler Moore of Three Rivers pinned Coldwater’s Zach Gipple in 2:39. Moore beat Calvin Christian by forfeit.
Three Rivers forfeited both matches at 285, 103, 112, 119 and 125.
In junior varsity action, Alec Rozner (130), Josh Detwiler (130), Matt Lough (135) and Dewayne Johnson (140) all recorded one victory for Three Rivers.
