Three Rivers qualifies three wrestlers for regionals
A flock of area high school wrestlers have qualified for this weekend’s regional tournament after finishing among the top four in their respective weight class in Saturday’s individual districts.
Included in that group area three grapplers from Three Rivers.
Sophomore Brandi Lafferty at 119 pounds along with seniors Brian York (160) and Mike Draper (189) have advanced to Saturday’s Individual Regionals in Williamston.
Draper finished the day as regional champion. The Wildcats senior won all three of his matches by pin over Fennville’s Nick Fries in 3:34, Jackson Calvert of South Haven in 5:23 and Hunter Belew of Delton-Kellogg in the finals in 2:50.
Lafferty, who finished fourth, pinned Dillon Clemmons of Colon in 0:31 and Titus Davis of Coloma in 1:25, lost to Josh Sunnerville of Otsego by pin in 1:32, beat Dylan McLean of Parchment 8-2 and lost in the consolation finals by major 14-4 decision to South Haven’s Ray Woddal.
York also finished fourth for the Wildcats. In his first match, York earned a 2-1 overtime decision over Fennville’s Mauricio Bedolla. York lost his next match by pin in 0:33 to Otsego’s Jake Case to drop into the consolation bracket. York then earned a major 14-5 decision to Parchment’s Killian Czerniak before dropping the consolation final on a major 13-3 decision to Dowagiac’s Lamberto Paredes.
Also qualifying for the tournament from Constantine were Gage Ensign (4th, 130), Eric Demas (2nd, 135), Carter Bates (4th, 152), Isaac Hall (1st, 171) and Dakota Anthony (2nd, 171) and Boe Eckman (1st, 215).
