TR shoots 426 on first day of state finals

Second round at 10 a.m. today

BATTLE CREEK — A crisp fall air greeted participating teams and individuals as the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 state girls’ golf finals got underway Friday morning at Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek.
The excitement of being on prep golf’s biggest stage is something the Three Rivers Lady Cats intend on savoring all weekend.
In its first-ever team berth in the state finals, Three Rivers shot an opening-round score of 426 for 18 holes which places them 17th in the field.
Bob Bales’ Lady Cats will tee off again in the second round of 18 today at 10 a.m. with hopes of improving its team score and place in the final standings.
Three Rivers’ junior and No. 1 player Erin Taylor finished with a score of 95 to lead the Lady Cats.
Sophomore Heidi Hines shot a respectable 101 followed by senior Cara Smith (114), sophomore Sara Haydon (116) and senior Sydney Ruth (141).
