Turnovers sack Hornets’ in loss to Panthers

CLIMAX — Mistakes can be disastrous.
Climax-Scotts took advantage of three Mendon turnovers and made the Hornets pay by handing them a 28-14 loss in the Division 8 district championship on the Panthers’ home field.
“Climax-Scotts is a good football team, but I just felt like we hurt ourselves tonight,” said Mendon first-year head coach Bobby Kretschman.
Climax-Scotts advances to face Morenci at home next week in the regional championship.
Climax-Scotts scored on its opening drive of the game on Adam Schantz’s 8-yard run with 3:42 left in the first quarter. The Panthers’ two-point conversion failed.
Mendon (8-3) grabbed a 7-6 lead with a 65-yard drive capped off by Wyatt Cool’s one-yard burst with 8:55 left in the second quarter. Ruben Vorster booted the PAT.
