COLDWATER — The Three Rivers varsity volleyball team lost in bracket play to Athens Saturday 25-19, 16-25, 9-15 in the Coldwater Tournament.
Erik Kore’s Lady Cats began pool play losing to Coldwater 22-25, 18-25 before earning a win over Hillsdale 25-11, 25-16 and split with Quincy 13-25, 25-7.
Middle hitter Hannah Orzol was a bright spot for Three Rivers hitting 280 while collecting seven kills on 25 attempts with seven blocks.
Tessa Hawkins asserted her defensive presence with 58 digs. Shelby Krawczak added 34, Morgan Schneider 33 and Maya Bidelman 24. Bidelman also had 34 assists while Darian Cole added 29.
Campbell Haradine added 21 kills for Three Rivers, Libby Judsen had 16 and Shelby Krawczak 14 for the Lady Cats, now 15-16-5.
Lady Hornets second in BCS League Blue Division
MENDON — The Mendon volleyball team finished second in the BCS Blue Division Tournament it hosted Saturday.
Bill Trenary’s Lady Hornets went 1-1 on the day.
Mendon defeated Centreville 25-15, 25-14, 25-14 before losing to Bronson in the finals 23-25, 26-24, 18-25, 20-25.
Megann Leighton had 34 kills and three blocks for Mendon. Kaley Smith had 64 digs and three aces. Hannah Duchene contributed 19 kills, two blocks and nine aces. Cassie Plummer finished with 70 assists and one ace. Haley Kramer pitched in 14 kills and two aces. Amaijha Bailey had five aces and 35 digs.
“Our girls continue to improve. We played very clean and fast against Centreville, then gave Bronson a good fight. Taking a game from them is a step for our team, and confirms how much we continue to get better, even over the last couple weeks,” Trenary said.
“Our team is peaking at the right time. We are getting better and better at playing as one. We aren’t all the way there yet, but it’s happening and it’s a lot of fun to see.”
Centreville started off with a 25-4, 25-8, 25-6 win over New Buffalo, lost to Mendon and beat Cassopolis 25-14, 25-12, 25-16.
Hannah Marchand had 10 aces, served 92 percent with 29 assists, 29 kills, .383 hitting, 26 digs and a pair of blocks for Centreville.
Carlee Odom had two aces, three assists, six kills, 12 digs and two blocks with .313 hitting.
Sara Lewis totaled three aces, served 96 percent with 33 digs for the Lady Bulldogs.
Kayla Jepsen had two kills, two digs and one block for the Bulldogs, while Skyler DeMeyer had six aces, served 96 percent, had 38 assists, 19 kills, .326 hitting with 20 digs and one block.
Also contributing for the Lady Bulldogs were Kalee Schrock with five aces, two assists, four kills, 29 digs and three blocks. Carly Todd had four kills, six digs and hit .500. Brittany Morris ended the day with four digs. Samara Schlabach had 11 kills, hit .280 with four digs and five blocks. Logan Jourdan had six aces, 10 kills, .240 hitting with 21 digs and three blocks.
White Pigeon lost to Cassopolis 25-21, 22-25, 24-26, 21-25 and beat New Buffalo 25-21, 25-11, 25-18.
Grace Keyer had 17 digs for the Lady Chiefs, now 5-8-4 in the conference. Lexi Larrison ended the day with two assists, six kills, two blocks and one dig. Madi Gremore added eight kills, six aces and 21 digs. Courtney Delarye had one assist, two blocks, two aces and seven digs. Jillian Hagen had two digs. Sidney Mishler contributed 11 kills, one ace and 14 digs. Angela Gipson had one kill, one block and one ace. Claycee West added 18 kills, four blocks, six aces and 18 digs. Shanna Hagner posted 31 assists, seven kills, one block, four aces and 12 digs.
