Wildcat netters third at Harper Creek Invite
BATTLE CREEK — The Three Rivers varsity boys’ tennis team competed in the Battle Creek Harper Creek Invitational on Saturday.
Harper Creek won the tournament with 23 points. Niles finished second with 13 points followed by Three Rivers with 11.
“It was close to a perfect day for tennis, sunny and very little wind,” said Three Rivers coach Scott Turner.
Three Rivers had one flight champion on the day at No. 2 singles where Jacob Turner claimed first-place honors.
At No. 2 singles, Turner defeated Luis Vasquez 6-1, 6-1 and Max Wilcox 7-5, 6-3 in the finals. The exact schools were not available for the opponents listed for Turner.
Calvin Trammell finished second at No. 3 singles for Three Rivers and No. 4 singles player Tim Lingk also finished runners-up for the Wildcats.
Trammell defeated Jacob Grondeck 6-1, 6-0 and then after a loss in the finals came back to earn a win over Storm Rowles 6-0, 6-0 to earn second.
Lingk beat Ethen Hooker 6-3, 6-0 and Chase Lotsbaich 6-3, 6-1 to earn second place.
“All of our singles players, including Tyler Seifert at No. 1 singles, played pretty solid tennis on the day,” said Three Rivers coach.
“Our doubles teams had times that they played very good and a few times that weren’t so good. But you could see over the course of the day that they are getting more comfortable on the court and with their playing partner so their games are definitely getting better.”
