WP third, Centreville fifth in BCS Conference golf championships
DOWAGIAC — White Pigeon’s golf team finished third in Monday’s BCS Conference Championships held at Hampshire Country Club near Dowagiac.
White Pigeon shot a team score of 364 for the 18-hole event. Centreville finished fifth with a 385.
St. Joseph Lake Michigan Catholic won the tournament with a 351, followed by Parchment who won the tiebreaker over White Pigeon with a 364.
Jordan Olsen of White Pigeon was the individual medalist with a 79.
Other scorers for the Chiefs, now 52-15 overall, were Cole Shafer (92), Donovan Snook (95) and Blaine Shafer (98).
“We finally got a good day for golf and did not take advantage of the beautiful weather. I was hoping for a little better showing today, but we were just a little off and it hurt our team score,” said White Pigeon coach Mark Olsen.
“Having only one player in the 70s was a little unexpected, but Hampshire is a pretty tough course. Jordan hit the ball well today but struggled with the putter. He should have shot around 70-72 based on his ball striking, but 37 putts adds to the total score pretty quickly. I keep saying one of these days Jordan is going to put it all together and that day may be soon. He looked really good tee to green.”
It’s the third consecutive season Jordan has been the BCS Conference MVP.
“Cole played well today. He is working on some things that will be big improvements down the road, but are causing some issues as he works toward the end result,” Mark Olsen said.
