ANN ADELL HARTLEY MALCOM
Ann Adell Malcolm was born to Alton and Josephine (Norris) Hartley in Portland, IN on May 15, 1928. On May 30, 2019 at the age of 91, Ann went to be with her family above. She lived her life in Portland and learned to drive at 13. This was so she could drive the milk truck each morning helping with the milk delivery (her father ran Hartley Dairy). Ann learned to play the piano and organ. She was an organist at a country church while she was in high school. After graduating from high school, Ann went to Indiana University. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1950. She worked off and on as a nurse for the rest of her life.
On Aug 6, 1950, she married the love of her life, Jim Malcolm. She followed him, a Navy man, until 1953 when they moved to his hometown, Three Rivers, MI. They lived and raised their children there until 1985, when Jim & Ann moved to Sarasota, FL. In 2015, Ann moved to Brighton, MI to be closer to family.
Ann was active in many organizations and activities: she joined DAR in 1948 and still was a member, Venice Doll Club, AAUW, and bible study. Both Jim & Ann were members of the First Presbyterian Church, Scottish Country Dancers, and International Dancers. The loved to travel, play cards, entertain, and they enjoyed sunsets.
Proceeding Ann in death are her parents, her husband, her brothers, a son and a grandson. Surviving are her 4 children: Jim (Diana) Malcolm of Marietta, GA; Kathy (Leo) McDonough Lemery; Beth (Craig) Hagen both of Brighton, MI; and Anita (Mark) Visalli of Paoli, PA. Ann has 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren (the 9th due in July), and many nieces and nephews.
Ann enjoyed a full life; she was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed. A memorial service is planned for July 1. The family asks in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to: Sue Silliman House, 116 S Main St., Three Rivers, MI 49093.
