MARIE H. DAY

Marie H. Day, age 92 passed away peacefully Jan. 25, 2017 in Cape Coral, Fla. She was born May 18, 1924 to Mabel (Dar) and Forrest Fisher and came from a long line of descendants at Fisher Lake where she grew up, and her father owned and ran the Shell Gas Station. Marie, Harvey and their children also lived there for eight years while the children were growing up.
Marie was married to Harvey A. Day on Oct. 21, 1946 and lived in Constantine, and the area until 2009 when she moved to Gulf Coast Village in Cape Coral, Florida. She was preceded in death by Harvey, who passed away at age 59 on Dec. 26, 1979.
Marie had been an active member in the auxiliary of the Constantine American Legion for years while in the area. She was very socially active at GCV while living there as well. Marie is survived by her three children, Gary Day of Klinger Lake (wife Connie), their two daughters Kim and Ashley, her daughter Marcia Shelhamer (whose husband Terry recently passed away), Marcia’s three children, Frieda (husband Philip), Sean (wife Joy), and Erin (husband Chris) and their children, and her daughter Diane Smith (husband Nevin), her stepchildren and extended family.
As per her wishes, Marie was cremated and there will be a graveside service at the Constantine Cemetery on May 19, 2017 at 11 a.m., with a reception following at the American Legion in Constantine. The family welcomes you to both. Memorials may be made to the American Legion where both Marie and Harvey were long-term members.
Marie asked for the following poem be put in the paper upon her death:
Miss me but let me go
When I come to the
end of the day,
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in
a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little,
but not too long,
And not with your
head bowed low
Remember the love
we once shared,
Miss me, but let me go.
For this is a journey
we all must take,
And each must go alone.
It’s all part of the Maker’s plan
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely
and sick at heart
Go to the friends we know,
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds,
Miss me, but let me go.
