PHILIP LLOYD CUPP
Philip Lloyd Cupp, age 90 of rural Mendon died peacefully at home and surrounded by family on Thursday, March 25, 2021. He was born in Three Rivers on July 13, 1930 the son of Lloyd Sherman Cupp and Edith Ann (Bussel) Cupp, and was a lifetime resident of Mendon. He graduated from Mendon High School with the class of 1948 and later attended Western Michigan University. Phil was married to M. Maureen Carkenord on Aug. 5, 1950 in St. Edward Catholic Church. While farming, Phil also worked at the Haas Corporation in Mendon from 1950 to 1966. They purchased their first farm in 1957 where they currently reside. Over the years, Phil sold irrigation systems and was a representative for Pioneer Seed Corn. He served on the Soil Conservation Board, the Mendon School Board for 10 years, and was inducted into the Michigan Farmer’s Hall of Fame in 2004.
Phil is survived by his wife, Maureen; thirteen children, Susan Vrobel, Phyllis Cupp, Judy (Mike) Skrypek, Roger Cupp, Jill (Dune) Batten, Jannette (Tony) Campbell, Rodney (Donna) Cupp, Mary Lovell, Doug (Tonya May) Cupp, Jayne (Fred) Medich, Chris (Don) Saunders, Patty (Glen) Samson, and Greg (Amy) Cupp; thirty-eight grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; and his faithful dog, Lady. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Maurice Cupp, Gerald (Lois) Cupp, and Dennis Cupp; son in law, Mike Vrobel; and brother and sister in law, Bob and Gerry Jones.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Mendon High School gymnasium. There will be a Rosary Service on Monday at 7 p.m. in St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon. Masks and distancing will be observed at both venues. A funeral mass for family only will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at St. Edward Catholic Church with Msgr. Thomas Martin officiating. Interment will follow in St. Edward Cemetery where all are welcome at approximately noon. A recording of the funeral mass will be posted to the funeral home website later in the day. It is suggested that memorial contributions be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, or to the Mendon Athletic Department.
