THREE RIVERS — After hours of searching Friday, police in Three Rivers arrested a person accused of an armed robbery at a local gas station.
According to the Three Rivers Police Department, at 11:10 a.m. Friday, police responded to the Sunoco gas station in the 700 block of West Michigan Avenue for an armed robbery report. The suspect had reportedly obtained an unknown amount of money and then fled the scene on a bicycle.
From there, officers from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police and the Department of Natural Resources, established a perimeter around the city. A police helicopter from MSP, K9 handlers and members of MSP’s Emergency Support Team also helped in the search. During the search, police also found several pieces of evidence, including clothing.
Later in the evening, a search warrant was issued in the 100 block of East Michigan Avenue after probable cause was reportedly established. The suspect was located and taken into custody without incident, and police say evidence of the crime was seized.
The name of the suspect was not released by authorities, but was described prior to the arrest as a white or Hispanic male in their late teens to early 20s.
In a statement, TRPD thanked residents and businesses for their assistance in the investigation, including a citizen who took notice of the suspect and helped update dispatch on their direction of travel initially.
