Standoff escapee captured

THREE RIVERS — A man who escaped a standoff situation Saturday night in Three Rivers by breaking through apartment walls was located and arrested Tuesday morning by St. Joseph County sheriff’s deputies.

According to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to the area of Hoffman Road near Pulver Road in Fabius Township at around 11:52 a.m.

At the scene, deputies found 33-year-old Kenneth Scott, who was wanted following a standoff situation Saturday, walking with a bicycle. Police claim they took him into custody without incident, and is now lodged in the St. Joseph County Jail.

The arrest comes three days after Scott escaped a standoff situation Saturday at an apartment at Riverside Apartments and Townhomes in the 1200 block of Hov Aire Drive. According to Three Rivers police, Scott barricaded himself inside the apartment of a third party, and police were called to the scene at 5:33 p.m. that day.

Officers from TRPD and the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department reportedly attempted to negotiate with Scott during the standoff, and because the suspect was reportedly barricaded in the apartment, the St. Joseph County Special Response Team was activated.

A search warrant was eventually obtained for the residence, and “numerous” attempts to contact the suspect were made. After no response, entry was made into the building. Once inside, however, police discovered Scott had reportedly broken through several walls to adjoining apartments and was able to escape.

Scott was arrested on numerous warrants. According to St. Joseph County Circuit Court records, Scott has outstanding warrants on multiple charges, including weapons charges and fleeing from a police officer.
