Two killed in two-vehicle crash on 131
CONSTANTINE TWP. — Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 131 near Youngs Prairie Road in Constantine Township Thursday.
According to Michigan State Police, a 2019 GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling northbound on the highway when it crossed the center line and struck a semi-truck with trailer that was heading southbound on the road.
The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck was transported to Three Rivers Health by Life Care Ambulance and treated for injuries.
Police identified the driver Friday as 58-year-old Albert Richard Fields Jr. of Middlebury, Ind., and the passenger as his son, 15-year-old Abert R. Fields III of Middlebury, Ind. The driver of the semi-truck was identified as a 30-year-old man from Fresno, Calif., who suffered only minor injuries in the incident.
Police say drug and alcohol use are not believed to be factors at this time and seatbelt use is unknown.
Assisting police on scene were Life Care Ambulance, Constantine Fire Department, White Pigeon Fire Department, and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
This investigation remains opening pending further investigation.
