Baker wins 3rd District county commission primary

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY — An incumbent on the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners has been defeated in the Republican primary Tuesday night.

With all relevant precincts fully reporting their unofficial results, businessman Rusty Baker is projected to win the race for the Republican nomination for the Third District seat on the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners, defeating incumbent Kathy Pangle.

The Third District covers Park Township, Mendon Township, Leonidas Township, and part of Colon Township.

Baker, who owns a heating and cooling business in Mendon, unofficially received 813 votes, while Pangle received 678 from the relevant townships.

Pangle is currently finishing her third two-year term on the county commission.

Once the election is certified, Baker will be running unopposed in the November general election for the seat.
