Division 4 cross country regionals

Mendon boys, Centreville girls, three individuals qualify for state meet

PORTAGE — The Southwest 10 Conference showed its dominance in cross country Saturday with two teams and three individuals earning berths in the state meet with outstanding performances in Saturday’s Division 4 regionals at Portage West Middle School.
Mendon’s boys team finished second with 81 points to earn its 14th consecutive trip to the state finals. Battle Creek St. Philip Catholic Central won the meet with 34.
“These kids ran a great race today. We placed behind Gobles last week at their Little Guys Invitational by a significant margin. It’s sweet to beat a team that simply outran us a week ago. We started out with the best start we have had all season with everyone under six minutes for the first mile and after that it was about holding the other teams off,” said Mendon coach Art Stephenson.
Medal winners and All-Regional performers Keaton Crotser and Charlie Newburry led Mendon.
