Mendon rushing attack sinks Lakers
MENDON — It wasn’t the prettiest win, but then again the Division 8 football playoffs aren’t about style points.
“At this point in the postseason it's about surviving and moving on,” said Mendon coach Bobby Kretschman after Saturday’s 28-12 pre-district win over visiting St. Joe Lake Michigan Catholic.
No. 3-ranked Mendon (10-0) hosts No. 1 Muskegon Catholic Central (8-1) in the district finals Saturday at 1 p.m.
Lake Michigan Catholic hung tough for nearly three and a half quarters before Mendon was able to put the game out of reach.
The Lakers (7-3) were able to keep Mendon’s defense off balance with its success throwing the football.
Zach Rogers was busy slinging the pigskin all over the field at quarterback for LMC.
Rogers, a sophomore, completed 12-of-35 passes for 233 yards and a pair of touchdowns with two interceptions.
