MENDON — The Mendon volleyball team defeated Burr Oak 25-13, 25-9, 25-10 Wednesday in a Class D District semifinal.
“We played quite well tonight,” said Mendon coach Bill Trenary following Wednesday’s win. “But there’s little else to say beyond that. Tomorrow is the next big job to do, and we are quite focused on that one.”
Mendon battles Marcellus at 7 p.m. today in the championship match.
Marcellus defeated Colon 25-23, 25-11, 25-13 in the other semifinal played Wednesday.
Megann Leighton had 19 kills, three blocks and two aces for Mendon. Hannah Duchene had 10 kills, two blocks and two aces. Cassie Plummer added one kill, one block and 32 assists. Kaley Smith posted one kill, five aces and 12 digs. Amaijha Bailey had two assists and five digs. Abby Miller contributed eight digs.
Mackenzie Buck of Marcellus had seven kills and two blocks. Briana Singer added 10 kills, 12 digs and one block. Sam Daugherty added one block. Ellie Holmes kicked in two aces and one dig. Madison Fisher posted 20 assists, one kill, nine digs and three blocks. Grace Mihills had four kills, three aces, one dig and three blocks. Jade Sibley had six assists, two kills and one dig. Chey Goodenough had five digs. Olivia Wildes chipped in one assist, two aces and 10 digs. Aleyna Hutson had 13 kills, three aces and eight digs. Kristina Wildes had two digs.
“There were a lot of nervous jitters at the start of this match, but once they settled down the girls played well,” said Marcellus coach Tony Hooley. “We will have to step it up a notch for the finals and I think this team is ready to do it.”
Centreville reaches Class C district final
