Wolbert hired as assistant principal at TR Middle School

THREE RIVERS — A new face from outside the district was hired to be the new Three Rivers Middle School assistant principal Monday.

The Three Rivers Community Schools Board of Education Monday approved the hire of Anthony Wolbert to be the assistant principal by a unanimous 4-0 vote of the board.

Wolbert, a Portage resident, previously worked for Sturgis Public Schools for 13 years with experience at both the middle school and elementary school level, mostly as a sixth-grade science and computer science teacher.

According to his biography on the Sturgis Public Schools website, he has a masters of education in educational technology as well as a bachelor of science degree in integrated science from Grand Valley State University, with a minor in elementary education.

Three Rivers Middle School Principal Jason Bingaman had plenty of praise for Wolbert.

“Through both of our rounds of interviews, he stood out. Our building team was able to get together and we really feel like we’ve got someone that will be able to help us do the things we need to do at the middle school level,” Bingaman said. “We’re excited for him to become part of the team.”

For the last couple of weeks, Bingaman said, Wolbert was an official at the World Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. Bingaman said officiating is something Wolbert does on the side.

“That’s kind of a neat way to interact with the kids as well, on that aspect,” Bingaman said.

In other business…

The board unanimously approved the hiring of Brad Hoercher as a construction trades teacher during Monday’s meeting.
  • The board held a closed session to conduct student reinstatement hearings.
